Common Ground
Common Ground, shared by choice.
Common Ground is a consent-based space for relationship communication. Two people independently choose which topics they want to discuss. Perspectives appear only after both separately review and approve sharing their own words.
How it works
- Each person is themselvesBoth partners use their own account and speak only for themselves. No one answers on behalf of the other.
- Permission comes firstA shared topic opens only when both of you choose to participate. Negative or deferred choices stay private. Both perspectives appear only after both people separately approve sharing.
- Private chats stay privateConnecting does not expose your conversations with JD. Only what you deliberately share in Common Ground becomes visible.
Why answering separately helps
Hard conversations often go wrong in the first few seconds, when one person reacts to the other's framing. Answering the same question independently gives each of you room to say what you actually think. When both answers appear side by side, you can see where you agree, where you differ, and what deserves a calmer conversation.
Many people find it useful to think a topic through privately with Talk to JD's relationship reflection modes before writing a shared answer.
You stay in control
Sharing is never permanent by default. You can withdraw a topic answer, and you can disconnect the connection at any time. After disconnecting, you are no longer sharing new answers with that person. Details are in privacy and data.
Know the limits
Common Ground supports communication; it does not judge who is right, predict an outcome or replace couples counselling or mediation. If you want a professional in the room, you can make a counsellor or mediator consultation enquiry.
If sharing with a partner is not safe for you, do not connect. Use the homepage safety options or read browsing safely.
